School of Human Ecology

150 Years of Critical Design Thinking

The School of Human Ecology (SOHE) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is an incubator for the next wave of design professionals in the universe. The school is a leader for its innovative, human-centered approach to education, research, and public service. ZEBRADOG was delighted to have the opportunity to affect their learning environment by incorporating a signature storytelling program throughout the new Nancy Nicholas Hall. From interactive and historical exhibitory to graceful wayfinding systems and evocative donor recognition design, this signature college at the University of Wisconsin is coloring the minds of the students that will color our future.

ZEBRADOG experiential designers created three unique donor recognition experiences that honor the community of donors in deep gratitude and celebration of what we can accomplish to improve human well-being:

The Hundred Women experience is a two-story stained glass celebration of the 100 women who donated $100,000 to the school. It has quickly become a popular area for students to gather, study, and be inspired by those who came before them.

Ember Hall is SOHE's newest donor recognition experience in the heart of the school. Anchoring the cafe and innovation lab, the space is inviting and warm. Floor to ceiling and wall to wall wooden carved tiles and illuminated donor names pulse and glow. 650 tiles double as donor gifts to give fundraisers ample space to accommodate 15-20 years of donor growth with an engaging design that is dynamic and ever-changing.

Reimagined Chairbacks were destined for the dumpster and are now a beautiful and heartfelt dedication to those donors who attended the school and sat in the very lecture chairs when it was the School of Home Economics for women. Throughout its history, the School of Human Ecology (SOHE) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has been on the leading edge of work that improves the lives of children, families, consumers, and communities.

“The growth of the School of Human Ecology would not have been possible without our donor support. Our partnership with ZEBRADOG isn't just about creating donor space, but helps us inspire donors to understand our purpose and mission to realize our vision.” Soyeon Shim | Dean, UW-Madison School of Human Ecology
